Marketing consent and unsubscribes

Last updated 12 October 2026

Cobbtree splits messages into two types.

Cobbtree splits messages into two types.

Service messages

Booking confirmations, reminders, changes, cancellations, waitlist offers, forms, patch tests and receipts. These go to clients because they have a booking with you. They don't need marketing consent.

Marketing messages

Campaigns, offers, win-back, birthday and abandoned booking messages. These only go to clients who have opted in on that channel:

  • Email marketing needs marketing email consent.
  • Text marketing needs marketing SMS consent.

Having an email address or mobile number isn't enough.

Unsubscribes

  • Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
  • Texts come from Cobbtree, so replying STOP may not work. Marketing texts include an unsubscribe link instead.
  • Opt-outs are respected in all future campaigns.
  • Unsubscribing from marketing doesn't stop service messages.

Imported clients

Clients you import are not opted in. They stay out of campaigns until they opt in.

Changing a client's preference

Staff can't override an opt-out from the campaign screen. Changing a client's marketing preference is done on their profile, and the change is recorded.
